Technical Guides & Specs
What is a Neopixel Lightsaber?
A Neopixel lightsaber features a blade lined with dual high-density strips of addressable RGB LEDs running from base to tip. Controlled by an internal soundboard micro-controller, each individual LED can be programmed independently, allowing for screen-accurate scrolling ignitions, localized flashes, and specialized flame or unstable blade animations.
Why Choose Neopixel?
Standard base-lit sabers use a single LED cluster located inside the hilt to shine light up a hollow tube, which often results in uneven illumination and dim tips. Neopixel provides:
-
360-degree, edge-to-edge full blade illumination.
-
Authentic motion-reactive visuals (tip drag, blaster deflection, lockup).
-
Rich immersion for photography, cosplay events, and theatrical choreography.
Are Neopixel Lightsabers Good for Dueling?
Yes, for light-to-medium dueling, flow spinning, and staged choreography. TKC Neopixel blades are encased within heavy-grade, impact-resistant polycarbonate tubing. However, because the blade houses sensitive electronic LED strips, full-contact heavy sparring with full-force strikes is better suited to RGB base-lit sabers (which use hollow, fully replaceable blades without internal electronics).
Neopixel vs Xenopixel: What is the Difference?
It is common to see these terms side by side:
-
Neopixel refers to the blade hardware technology (the strip of addressable LEDs inside the blade).
-
Xenopixel (such as Xenopixel V3) refers to the soundboard processor inside the hilt that drives the Neopixel blade. Xenopixel boards offer Bluetooth smartphone customization, pre-installed sound fonts, motion gesture ignition (twist or push-pull), and onboard SD card configuration at an accessible price point.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Neopixel lightsaber?
A Neopixel lightsaber is an advanced custom prop equipped with internal blade LED strips and a motion-reactive soundboard. This allows for individual pixel control, enabling scrolling blade ignition effects, localized flash-on-clash, and cinematic brightness.
Are Neopixel blades removable?
Yes. All TKC saber blades are completely detachable via emitter retention screws. You can easily remove the blade for hilt-only belt carry with our Covertec clips or for vault display.
Can Neopixel lightsabers be used for dueling?
TKC Neopixel sabers are combat-ready for flow arts, choreography, and light-to-medium dueling. For high-impact, full-force competitive sparring, RGB base-lit blades are recommended to safeguard internal LED components.
How long does the battery last?
On a full charge, a high-drain Neopixel PowerCell typically provides 1 to 2 hours of continuous run-time, depending on brightness settings, sound volume, and active blade FX.
What's the difference between Neopixel and RGB?
-
RGB (Base-Lit): Uses a single LED module in the hilt firing up a hollow plastic blade. Great for heavy dueling and entry-level budgets.
-
Neopixel: Uses dense LED strips inside the blade itself, providing scrolling ignition, higher brightness, and localized clash animations.
